You want me to care about the guy crying over his wife, who he ridiculed publicly for her unrequited love ? You want me to care about the girl crying for the guy, who has no self-respect and acts like a goddam stalker for him ? The drama and romance feels forced and fake.
It feels good on the surface, but when you realise how toxic their relationship was before they got together (and sometimes even after they get together), it all falls apart. The girl getting pregnant but being sick. The second tried so hard to be like “Clannad AfterStory”. Girls who keeps trying, and the MC who keeps making fun of her. The first half was similar to “Wolf girl and Black Prince”. I hope that characters like Erie don't make girls watching these kind of animes set some crappy expectations from their future partners. But I was pretty appalled in so many of the scenes. The anime definitely had its cute moments. Only then can he feel like he landed the best girl who feeds his ego. It almost seemed like, if you're forward, have a voice, and a brain in your head, you aren't a good wife material, because guess what, our hero needs a pea brained innocent girl who never wears any revealing clothes ( otherwise she'd be like 'those girls') and hardly is capable of getting anything done. Even if they do, they're not mean just for the sake of being mean.Īll the strong and smart women in this anime were automatically made evil. But that does not happen in real life! Firstly, guys like Erie don't exist. so I know it's an age old trope where the tsundere perfect dude softens up to a stupid girl who keeps trying.

And after marriage he clearly still looked down on her (for not knowing english?!!), didn't know how to handle his emotions, and hardly had much of an emotional improvement even till the end.Ĭan we also talk about how ultra unrealistic the premise is. He was always shitty to her, making fun of her, teasing her unrequited love publicly etc. I agree that their relationship is not actually abusive. I felt like he had a little sadistic side to him. She was always insecure because of the disproportionately huge gap between her and him and he didn't even do much to change those feelings in her even though he could clearly see what she was going through. She even chose her career based on her guy's. I felt like Kotoko lacked major self respect, and had no voice of her own. The main couple's relationship paradigm is pretty toxic.
And how are people okay with tropes like these?ĭon't get me wrong, I know a lot of people love it and I don't want to shit all over it. I am a little confused about why is this story so popular and dramatised into several media. So, I just finished watching it, and I have so many mixed emotions.
